May I ask why you set this bug's severity to "important"?

We recently backported an updated version of the ATI Radeon driver to our
packages of XFree86 4.3.0; perhaps this causing your problem.

If you could downgrade xserver-xfree86 to 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 or earlier,
perhaps you could confirm whether this driver update is what has caused the
problem.
