Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-4

Summary: Back slash and vertical bar keys broken under X.

System: Debian GNU/Linux sarge 2.4.25-1-k7
        libc6 2.3.2.ds1-12

Details:

This is how the keyboard is configured under X,
but those two keys remain incorrecly handled:

  # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

  XKB rule: xfree86
  Keyboard model: pc104
  Keyboard layout: br
  Keyboard variant: abnt2

This is a work-around for the issue:

  $ xmodmap -
  keycode 51 = bracketright braceright
  keycode 94 = backslash bar
  ^D
  $

For reference about the keyboard, this gives
perfect results in the console:

  # dpkg-reconfigure console-data

  Select keymap from arch list
  Keyboard family: qwerty
  Keyboard layout: Brazilian
  Keyboard variant: Standard

I suppose specification for my
keyboard variant is not available
for X?

Closing as due to misconfiguration.

There's no such rules file as an "abnt2" rules file, though.

What I suggested should work according to the XKB data shipped in xlibs.

  $ cat -n /etc/X11/xkb/rules/xfree86
[...]
    23 ! model =3D keycodes
    24 macintosh_old =3D macintosh
    25 powerpcps2 =3D powerpcps2
    26 pc98 =3D xfree98(pc98)
    27 abnt2 =3D xfree86(abnt2)
    28 * =3D xfree86
[...]
    43 ! model =3D geometry
[...]
    55 abnt2 =3D pc
[...]
    65 ! model layout =3D symbols
[...]
    67 abnt2 br =3D us(pc101)+br
[...]

(Line 55 should probably say "pc(abnt2)", not merely "pc".)
