Bug#214062: xbase-clients: Dependancy on cpp-3.2
Package: xbase-clients
Version: 4.2.1-6
Severity: normal
-- System Information:
Debian Release: testing/unstable
Architecture: powerpc
Kernel: Linux miles 2.4.21 #1 Mon Aug 4 04:47:57 EST 2003 ppc
Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (ignored: LC_ALL set to POSIX)
Versions of packages xbase-clients depends on:
ii cpp 4:3.3.1-2 The GNU C preprocessor.
ii libc6 2.3.2-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an
ii libdps1 4.2.1-11 Display PostScript (DPS) client li
ii libfreetype6 2.1.5-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib
ii libncurses5 5.3.20030719-1 Shared libraries for terminal hand
ii libxaw7 4.2.1-11 X Athena widget set library
ii xlibmesa3-gl [libgl1] 4.2.1-11 Mesa 3D graphics library [XFree86]
ii xlibmesa3-glu 4.2.1-11 Mesa OpenGL utility library [XFree
ii xlibs 4.2.1-11 X Window System client libraries
-- no debconf information
Why does xbase-clients (and xdm and xutils) depend on cpp-3.2?
If it really does need a C preprocessor why isn't the dependancy on cpp (>=3.2)
or something else sensible.
I currently have a machine with limited disk space. I already have gcc-2.95
for compiling the kernel and gcc-3.3 for just about everything else. Having
to install parts of gcc-3.2 as well just seems strange.
