That's the rather old version for woody though, 2003.08.07-1 for sid is
available from
deb http://people.debian.org/~daenzer/dri-trunk-sid/ ./
It contains an XFree86 CVS snapshot of the radeon driver, which has much
improved multihead support.

Sounds about right, not that glxgears is a meaningful benchmark.

The renderer string specifies the driver name, not the specific chip.
