Well, i don't know, there is noxxx option for each accel primitive,
trying them all until you find the one which crashes your box might be a
better idea.

Normal, since in this case, the graphic engine is not used, and the
processor does all the work. Since the graphic engine is not used, it
cannot dead-lock and you don't experience the problem.

I still have to build the debug enabled kernel module, i will do this
now.
