Bug#204343: Xfree crashes when accessing some fonts (on i830)

Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-9
Severity: important

Maybe this bugreport is alike #193529. I am not sure.

I get X crashes when "using" some fonts.
Here is what I exactly do to have X crash (repeatable every time, here).
1) Open kword
2) Type a text and select it
3) Click the arrow at the right of the font description, to select another
font.
4) Scroll down in the menu that has opened.
X crashes now.

I have "weird" fonts installed, ie fonts downloaded under some
freeware/postcardware licences, from the internet.

Attached are :
- My XF86Config setup file
- error output from the "startx" command where I got the crash
- XFree86.0.log

I also get these on console (from kernel, would I guess) after X has
crashed :

[drm:i830_wait_ring] *ERROR* space: 65520 wanted 65528
[drm:i830_wait_ring] *ERROR lockup
[drm:i830_wait_ring] *ERROR* space: 65512 wanted 65528
[drm:i830_wait_ring] *ERROR lockup
[drm:i830_wait_ring] *ERROR* space: 65504 wanted 65528
[drm:i830_wait_ring] *ERROR lockup
[drm:i830_wait_ring] *ERROR* space: 65496 wanted 65528
[drm:i830_wait_ring] *ERROR lockup

I will provide any other information needed.
I can also send "strange" fonts I have here, in case it helps, but only to
some private address, due to their licence.

I run an up-to-date sid, on kernel 2.4.20
debconf 1.3.8
libc6 2.3.1-17
xserver-common 4.2.1-9
zlib1g 1.1.4-14
