I'm afraid that mouse movement (or lack of it) isn't really indicative;
it depends on how the mouse is set up. You can always try flipping to a
console (via, say, Alt-Ctrl-F2) and doing a "ps ax" to see what's
actually running. If you can't get to the console, and "Alt-Ctrl-BkSp"
(kill X) doesn't get you out of wherever you are, then yeah, chances are
the machine itself is wedged.
