Can you please update your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 as follows?

Change it from:
> Section "Device"
> 	Identifier	"Generic Video Card"
> 	Driver		"vesa"
> EndSection

 to:

Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Generic Video Card"
	Driver		"s3virge"
	Option		"SWCursor" "true"
EndSection

If you do that and restart the X server, does the problem go away?
