You should know better than to try to extract such a promise from me. I'm not the Release Manager. There hasn't been a Release Status update mailed in quite some time. I don't know what the current status of the freeze is. I don't know whether the Release Management team (Anthony has a couple of deputies) is planning to stall the release until #143825 is fixed; I don't know if the XFree86 package reorganization is considered a "major change to a major package", and so forth. No member of the Release team has been in touch with me about these things. My current assumption is that they're expecting to release sarge with XFree86 4.3.0, that they know I've had some long-standing goals for this release, that these goals are publicly documented and kept up-to-date, that several other people have the ability to assist me with these goals (as well as RC bugs), that I'm working on them as fast as I can, and that I'm making progress. However, maybe those are too many assumptions and they don't actually know any of it. Anyway, the bottom line is that I can only make commitments about what I will try to release. I cannot make commitments on behalf of the Release Management team as to what will be accepted into sarge. -- G.
