Package: emacs21
Version: 21.3+1-3
Severity: minor

I connect to a remote site from an xterm with ssh (I don't have a
direct access to this machine at the moment, and the problem isn't
reproducible on my local machine with the same emacs version) and
execute "emacs -nw blah" with a .emacs containing only:

(column-number-mode 1)

Then I type (slowly or quickly, this doesn't matter): [a] xxxxx
Here's what I get after 3, 4 and 5 x characters (the ^ representing
the position of the cursor):

[a] xxx
       ^

[a] xxxx
 ^

[x] xxxx
         ^

This problem doesn't occur without (column-number-mode 1).

After a C-l, the line is correctly redrawn, but if I do the C-l after
the first 4 'x' characters, the cursor remains at the wrong position
(over the 'a').

Under these conditions, this bug is 100% reproducible.

I am going to close it, then. If it recurs within 28 days, the bug can
be re-opened. (Mail me to let me know that it has happened again and I
will take care of it.)

Thanks for following up so quickly.

Closing thus bug as unreproducible by submitter.
