When switching to a non-root user with the -u option, the operation waits awhile then time's out with 'Child terminated with 1 status'. This seems to be the case for any program you attempt to run.

This bug was reassigned to an XFree86 package but the bad behavior was
only exhibited with unofficial packages:
I started digging a little more, then remembered that I upgraded
to XFree 4.3 (including xbase-clients) a while back!

I tried again on a similar sid setup w/ 4.2 and it worked fine.
