New Revision: 184

Modified:

Log:
STATUS update; completely reformatted it to make it more readable at a glance,
and of course updated the statuses of various architectures. Most of them are
just waiting on rebuilds.

merging Sven Luther's SDK stuff and abolishing Xcursor next, followed by
whatever else props up; TinyX could be a distant speck.

-I pinged all architecture maintainers other than i386, powerpc and alpha on 26th
-May, 10:30pm +1000, asking for fresh builds (hppa, hurd-i386, ia64, sparc,
-s390), or porting assistance (arm, bsd, m68k, mips, mipsel, sh[34], x86-64).
-Here's the results of those pings as of the date at the bottom of the file:
+Here's the rough status of the various architectures, for 4.3.x (name of the
+main porter in parentheses):

-alpha: No ping required (I have access to a slow Alpha).
- Status: known good; build initiated, expected to complete in ~24h.
-arm: Othmar Pasteka responded to list query around 4am next day, has
- kicked off build and found porting-based FTBFS.
- Status: first build FTBFSed, awaiting patch from Othmar/Phil Blundell.
-bsd: Robert Millan responded to personal query about 10:45 same day,
- and Joel Baker responded to list query about 7am next day; both
- have been able to bootstrap XFree86.
- Status: significant bootstrap progress on both ports.
-hppa: No response (personal query to LaMont Jones).
- Status: should build and work with MANIFEST update, LaMont to build soon.
-hurd-i386: Robert Millan responded to personal query about 10:45 same day,
- tried to build, but is having troubles with groff, et al - someone
- else needs to build.
- Status: groff issues that need to be hacked around locally.
-ia64: Bdale Garbee responded to personal query around 7:30am next
- morning, build failed as ia64 ELF loader code is screwed. Fixed
- 28th May 1:35pm, new source sent to Bdale, build attempted, FTBFS
- on int10-related issues. Fixed 28th May 5:35pm, new source sent to
- Bdale, awaiting third build.
- Status: awaiting third build, after second FTBFS.
-i386: No ping required (I have several i386 machines).
- Status: known good; current sources build and work.
-m68k: Christian T. Steigies responded to list query around 4:30am next
- day - needs more space in his buildd to do the build, but may get
- it from his firewall or such. Wouter Verhelst will do a build on
- the slowest m68k in the cluster if Christian can't find the space.
- Status: not even started; potential buildd lined up.
-mips/mipsel: Karsten Merker responded to list query around 11:30 same night.
- There is a fast machine with only 3.2gb of space free, and a slower
- machine with more space; he's attempting the build on the slower
- machine. I accidentally gave him the wrong URL at first, but I sent
- a new one off about 7am the next morning.
- Status: first-ever build initiated, and awaiting failure for MANIFEST.
-powerpc: No ping required (I have a dual G4 at work).
- Status: known good; new build to be initiated tomorrow when buildd is
- powered on.
-sh[34]: YAEGASHI Takeshi responded to list query late the next evening - he
- doesn't have the time/resources to do the port, and not to let sh
- hold up 4.3.
- Status: not even started; won't be ported to sh for a while due to lack of
- time (lucky it's not a release architecture).
-s390: Bastian Blank responded to personal query around 11:15 same day,
- initiated and completed build, sent me build log. Problem fixed (I
- think) around 1:35pm on 28th of May, new source sent to Bastian,
- built to MANIFEST check.
- Status: we finally have an s390 MANIFEST! I'm too busy to do this - someone
- else really needs to update *.install.s390 and make new sources to
- send to Bastian (I can roll if needed).
-sparc: Dagfinn Ilmari responded to personal query and kicked off build
- around 5:45am next day; bulit to completion.
- Status: works, some minor xkb issues with Type5 keyboards; built to
- completion and otherwise works.
-x86-64: No response (list query).
- Status: not even started.
+alpha: known good; build completed. (me)

-The current source snapshot in my repository is 4.3.0-0pre1v1, as of 1:40pm,
-28th May; the only changes are FTBFS fixes for ia64 and s390.
+arm: first build FTBFSed, awaiting patch from Othmar/Phil Blundell.
+ (pb/BlindMan)

+freebsd-i386: MANIFEST needed, otherwise works! (rmh)
+
+hppa: should build and work with MANIFEST update, no response from
+ LaMont wrt building it. (lamont)
+
+hurd-i386: groff issues that need to be hacked around locally - kernel panics
+ when you run it on large documents. (?)
+
+ia64: awaiting third build, after second FTBFS; I think I've fixed the
+ patches now. (bdale)
+
+i386: well, duh. (me)
+
+m68k: problem found, fixed, will be rebuilt with new sources. (cts)
+
+mips/mipsel: first build failed due to libfreetype6 (grr), awaiting second
+ failure for MANIFEST. (Karsten Merker)
+
+netbsd-i386: no idea. (fenton)
+
+powerpc: works fine. (me)
+
+sh[34]: YAEGASHI Takeshi responded to list query late the next evening -
+ he doesn't have the time/resources to do the port, and not to
+ let sh hold up 4.3; no SuperH for you. (YAEGASHI Takeshi)
+
+s390: MANIFEST and *.install.s390 completed; will post up new sources
+ for Bastian to rebuild soon. (waldi)
+
+sparc: builds, works. (ilmari)
+
+x86-64: not started, no-one interested. (debian-x86-64@l.d.o)
+
 To be done:
- * Remove all Xcursor stuff, to be built externally.
- + Ishikawa is doing this in a branch, ergo it's SEP.
- * Chase up porters.
+ * Chase up outstanding porters.
   * Look at Sven Luther's SDK stuff to see if it's worth importing.
   * Look at building TinyX.
+ Which architectures does it build/work on?
-Done:
- * Merge with people/{branden,ishikawa}.
- * Fix ia64 ELF loader code.
