testing

Wide desktop backgrounds designed to work with Xinerama do not display
properly. On the second head, the image starts again from the top left
corner.

An example of where this is a problem is when a user wishes to use XPlanet
to display an image of the Earth as a desktop background. Only half of
the image can be seen.

An interesting side-effect: The X Server _is_ actually supplied the entire
image. If you run a program such as aterm or eterm with transparent
backgrounds enabled, that program will show what is supposed to be on
screen at that location on the second head.

I had heard through the grapevine that this bug was supposed to be fixed
in XFree86's post-4.0.3 CVS, and I had never personally tried compiling
4.1.0 to test. Therefore I think there's a possibility that a patch has
been applied in the Debian version that backed out this capability.

This problem appears to have been resolved in XFree86 4.2.1

I'm currently running xserver-xfree86 version 4.2.1-6pre7v2 (from X
Strike Force), but it worked the last time I tried the distributed
version in testing.
