Bug#189101: xutils: compiler error running imake

i have two machines: one as reported below, the other running stable.
both exhibit similar problems when running xmkmf (which in turn runs imake).

on the unstable machine, i get

$ imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
collect2: ld terminated with signal 11 [Segmentation fault]
Aborted
$

on the other, i get

> imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 7
Aborted

i realise that both of these signals are frequently indicative of memory
or other hardware issues, but both machines regularly compile the Linux
kernel, etc, without this problem.  combining that with the fact that it
is occuring on both machines, and i wonder if it's not something in
imake itself.

running imake in gdb produces a fairly useless-looking stacktrace, but in
case it's actually useful, here it is:
