switching to console does not work

Hello,

I'm running debian/woody on my fujitsu lifebook using xfree 4.1 with a ATI Rage Mobility P/M AGP graphic chip. Unfortunetly I can't switch to the text console with <alt><ctrl><f1>. The screen only flickers. Further the x-server crashes by switching the laptop to standby mode.

I have already searched in the internet and other usegroups for a solution, but the suggestions didn't help (using ati2 modules). I tried to install xfree 4.2 from unstable but the problem was still there. I think my config file is fine, because normally xfree works and there are no significant differences to my old file (I used SuSE 7.1 with the same version of xfree before and I didn't have these problems).

Is there any help out there or do I have to switch back to SuSE?

Bernd Mau

P.S.: I'm using kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4.
