xconsole bug #118856 & woody upgrade

Hi:

Branden has seen this bug "... for as long as I've been using xconsole
on Linux..." 

For me, potato's xconsole was very reliable. Now, I see that the
problem surfaces in woody.

I really like xconsole, as I use a dialup line, and it's convenient to
know when ppp dies.

Is there a work-around for this xconsole message loss?
