i can run at 15 bpp (@16 bpp everything gets a purple overtone), but
like the subject header states, on version 4.1.x i could run the X
server at 24 bpp, whereas this version i can't. frankly, i have a
 "WTF?!?" reaction to this situation. i don't have modern equipment (i
run a powermac 7500/100 with the on-board video at 2MB VRAM) and can't
afford to get some, so i will not (and can't) upgrade the machine.
