The s3virge driver doesn't recognize your chip. There is a new s3 driver
in XFree86 CVS and the upcoming 4.2.0 release, you might want to ask on
the Xpert@XFree86.Org list if it supports your chip.

The fact that the vesa driver doesn't work correctly could mean that
your graphics card doesn't (fully) support VESA.


If you are using a framebuffer device in console, you could try the
fbdev driver.
