3.3.6 / 4.0.1, some modes not available
Greetings everyone.
I downloaded Branden's nice xf86 4.0.1 .debs late september 3rd, phase
1.19, for my woody dual-celeron system with g400 max video card and
Mitsubishi 900u monitor.
The install went as smoothly as I could expect; I got through the
install hicaughs, but I am having trouble getting 1600x1200 to run at
anything other than 59Hz. With woody's 3.3.6 (and potato, when it was
'unstable') I was able to run 1600x1200 at 74Hz.
I have tried to copy the modelines from my old XF86Config to my new
XF86Config file, but they don't seem to work; sometimes it exits with an
error about not finding the display, and sometimes it causes my monitor
to save itself from a fiery death and display statistics on the incoming
connection. (112kHz horizontal, 74Hz vertical (not 100% positive on the
vertical..))
Has anyone seen this or similar problems? Or, does anyone have any ideas
on how to fix it? :)
(The XF86Config file for 4.0.1 that I am attaching displays at 59Hz; I
could swear earlier tonight this same modeline caused it to not work at
all...)
Attached are my XF86Config files from both 4.0.1 and 3.3.6, as well as
the log file generated when running 4.0.1. I would love to entertain any
questions. :) [xf86config is the 3.3.6 file, XF86Config is 4.0.1.]
Thanks everyone.
[btw -- since this doesn't exactly deal with the packaging of the new X,
only the testing of the new X, is this question better sent to
debian-user? thanks. :]
