4. Assuming you are on a Chromebook, as you talk about Chromium OS, Google does not suggest this, but it is an option, you can enable
developer mode. This allows you to install apps from unknown sources, and hopefully download packages using http. If you decide to do this, be careful about what you download, as it can potentially be dangerous. It is legal, and does not void your contract with Google, unlike jailbreaking iOS and unlocking Android Bootloader. Still, I would not recommend this for non-developers. It is highly unstable.
