install of nvidia on debian strech hangs, need help

Hi,

I’ve stretch (9.1) on a system with a K80 and wanting to get nvidia driver installed.

Following

https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers#Debian_9_.22Stretch.22

I first tried the version 390.48, but that failed with:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have

requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable

distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

or been moved out of Incoming.

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

nvidia-driver : PreDepends: nvidia-installer-cleanup but it is not installable

PreDepends: nvidia-legacy-check (>= 343) but it is not going to be installed

Depends: nvidia-driver-libs (= 390.67-2~bpo9+1) but it is not going to be installed or

nvidia-driver-libs-nonglvnd (= 390.67-2~bpo9+1) but it is not going to be installed

Depends: nvidia-driver-bin (= 390.67-2~bpo9+1) but it is not going to be installed

Depends: xserver-xorg-video-nvidia (= 390.67-2~bpo9+1) but it is not going to be installed

Depends: nvidia-vdpau-driver (= 390.67-2~bpo9+1) but it is not going to be installed

Depends: nvidia-alternative (= 390.67-2~bpo9+1) but it is not going to be installed

Depends: nvidia-kernel-dkms (= 390.67-2~bpo9+1) but it is not going to be installed or

                          nvidia-kernel-390.67

Depends: nvidia-support but it is not installable

Recommends: nvidia-settings (>= 390) but it is not going to be installed

Recommends: nvidia-persistenced but it is not going to be installed

E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

So I changed over to try 375.66, and that goes further, but hangs after I answer this prompt at the bottom, been sitting there for over an hour doing nothing…

If you plan to no longer use the NVIDIA driver, you should make sure that no X screens are configured to use the NVIDIA X driver

in your X configuration file. If you used nvidia-xconfig to configure X, it may have created a backup of your original

configuration. Would you like to run `nvidia-xconfig --restore-original-backup` to attempt restoration of the original X

configuration file?

Could use some help.

Thanks!
