Looking at the changelog entries, I see however:

texlive-bin (2007.dfsg.2-4+lenny1) stable-proposed-updates; urgency=low

  * add a patch to fmtutil that make warnings not exit fmtutil non-0
    exit code. This is needed to fix the 5-years is too old bug.

Hello Adam,
thanks for your swift explanation. While doing the update I couldn't
see the connection and assumed a copy and paste error. I did not
investigate further by reading the bug reports.
