This is wrong. If you have correctly installed Debian GNU/Linux, it
should say something like this

Python 2.3.5 (#2, Oct 16 2006, 19:19:48)
[GCC 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13)] on linux2

So maybe this one helps:

PS. This list is about Debian web site development. Thus I cannot
answer your question because I don't have detailed information about
