Subject: Protest against EU Software Patents Wednesday 27 August, Brussels

On Wednesday, August 27, a protest demonstration[1] against the european
software patent directive proposal is scheduled in Brussels in front of
the European Parliament on the Luxemburg Place(Place du Luxembourg).

While some people claim the directive is not about legalizing patents on
software, anaysis shows that this directive will result in unlimited US
style patentability, including business method patents and that it will
forces all member states to make even open publication on the interent
a patent infringement.

The demonstration starts at 12am at the Luxemburg Place (Place du
Luxembourg) and a Press Conference[2] inside the Parliament is planned for
2pm. It is being organised by Belgian activists and supported[3] by
Eurolinux and FFII and it will be the last opportunity to show the high
public interest in this issue to politicans.

It is obvious that the 160.000 signers of the Eurolinux petition[4] will
not all be able to be present, but we hope for a strong Belgian presence.

If you are not able to come and you are a webmaster, software project
leader or have a personal home page, please join the internet
demonstration[5] by putting a patent warning on the front page of your
web site.
