I hope you just have noticed the yet existing Debian based Live-CD
project at

            http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/

I do not know if there is an English web page, but at least there
is an English ISO image available at

             ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix

I would prefer joined forces to make one really good Live-CD project.
In my opinion Knoppix fits this description very well.
