Hi Mrs. Rachel, you should do the following:

Mail debian-xxxxxx-request@lists.debian.org, where
xxxxxx is the listname, with a subject of 'subscribe' (without the quotes)
and whatever you want in the body of the message.

Example: debian-user-request@lists.debian.org.
