Let me try again.
My concern is that people will want links to everything that
concerns them from a single page. This means that for many
people the port pages, ports/x86/index.html say, will be what they
visit most.  To keep them happy, every port page would have most
of the same information as the current top page. If that
happens it would make sense to simplify /index.html to
be more of a general information page.

I am not suggesting that we implement this, just to emphasize
that we need to give some thought in how people will use the
pages when designing the layout.

I was thinking about giving them a section in the body of the main page.
