TL;DR: we've been invited to participate into GNOME Outreach Program for Women and I'd like to accept the invitation. To maximize impact, though,
we need mentors and topics to complement the current GSoC tasks.

GNOME Outreach Program for Women (OPW) is a great internship initiative,
by GNOME, initially for GNOME internship only, but which has recently
been extended to other FOSS projects. If you don't know about it but are
interested in this conversation, please have a look at [1], and in
particular at [2].

I have been looking this over as I am not familiar with any of this discussion really. If I understand correctly a student such as myself might have an opportunity to get involved in Gnome coding, or other FOSS project code work? I am just not familiar with the Outreach Program for Women except what parts I have read on the linked website. Which is a lot of information I'm not familiar with.

I think this is something I might be able to do, but I don't know if I can. I am not so certain of specifics as the Internship mentioned overlaps a summer and Fall semester of school. I don't know if my coding skills, or lack of, is of any value. How do I find out more? It just seems everyone already understands what is happening and I understand little about this project. I tried to look briefly at some projects listed but I didn't find out what language the projects were written in. I did see bug reports and if I could get involved that would be very exciting indeed.

So is this a pathway into working on Gnome projects? Or is this something for Google? How do I know if I am a likely candidate to get involved?

Thank you for your input

Kristen
