That would be simpler indeed. The only worry is that it probably means
going through NEW very close to freeze... but on the other hand it eases
maintenance for the next few years in stable.

FWIW, I use the Multi-ISP feature.

Personally, I'm not a fan of hosting Debian source on upstream
infrastructure. And Salsa provides preconfigured CI pipelines that are
very useful. (I configured them already but they didn't run because
nothing was pushed the new repo yet.)
