thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, I can only tell you that I plan to abandon packaging of courier altogether. It's been a struggle for me to keep up the community work recently and many people were far less than appreciative.
Noticing that upstream now runs their own packaging convinced me it's not worth for me to keep maintaining this for Debian proper.
