Merecat footprint is ~ 140 KiB.
Having CGI support and Let's encrypt support is also a plus.

The swap of publicfile-installer for merecat
is a improvement for Debian.

FWIW, this email adds deep link https://salsa.debian.org/debian/merecat
to this ITP BR. I can confirm that 
  
  debcheckout https://salsa.debian.org/debian/merecat

works.  Once merecat is in debian you can do just

  debcheckout merecat

(Install debcheckout by `sudo apt install -y devscripts`.)
