You start by making this orphan message an intend to adopt (ITA) via the bug tracker's retitle command. As the package is (was) team-maintained, you should consult the Science team's policy on how to maintain a package and then upload a version to mentors with your name replacing Guus in the uploaders list and some other changes. Then file a RFS (maybe the Science team has a specific twist on how to do that).
