I am fine if this is going to contrib instead of main, given that
building from source cannot easily be done as you mentioned.
Shall I modify something in the package to indicate this?

Thanks for the info, I have modified the package to not install them
anymore.
Version 1.0.3-2 has been uploaded to mentors with this change, and also
adding a little bit metadata:

https://mentors.debian.net/package/fonts-jetbrains-mono

I have marked previous 1.0.3-1 as "UNRELEASED" in the changelog, I hope
it makes sense to do that.
