I followed up on a "orphaned bug" by adding a message to the bug 905080.
This got never a response.

Sadly that does happen. Good that you presist.
( How to do good presistence is another story )

You must be ironical. Following up after months, doesn't look like
persistence. It just reflects my priority list.
The priority list reflects my perception of the eagerness with
which the Debian community welcomes a capable maintainer.

Did I make a mistake with respect to the Debian protocols?

(-: learning is making mistakes :-)

Retitle the bug from "O" to "ITA" and do the actual work, next is "RFS"

This work has no material effect. Because there are no actual defects that
impact the usability of the package,
it just changes a maintainer name and/or a copyright message.
And I just learned that, because there are no actual, let alone substantial defects
("bugs"), the package will not disappear from the next distribution.
