Looks like a fava dependency is missing in Debian: [python3-]markdown2, https://pypi.org/project/markdown2/ (There's python3-markdown in the archive, but that's a different one: https://pypi.org/project/Markdown/) Volunteers to package markdown2 are welcome; I'm not going to package it myself.
