Bug#911575: ITP: bitfield -- a tool for decoding register values

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andrew Donnellan <andrew@donnellan.id.au>

* Package name    : bitfield
  Version         : 0.3
  Upstream Author : Jeremy Kerr <jk@ozlabs.org>

* License         : GPLv2+
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : a tool for decoding register values

bitfield is a small tool for decoding register values and inspecting individual fields of a register.

bitfield is intended for use by programmers working on low-level software.

Users provide a configuration for each register which defines the individual fields. bitfield then decodes provided hex values using the configuration to print a readable interpretation.

I'm aware of the name conflict with #864358, though that bug hasn't seen
any activity in over a year. An alternative name would be "bitfield-decode".

I am currently working on tidying up the Python packaging upstream as well as implementing a bunch of new features, so the Debian packaging might wait until things settle a bit.

I am not a DD or DM, so would need a sponsor.
