Actually, it was uploaded to sid three days ago, so if all goes well it
should be in buster by the end of week.

This is already in 2.7.2-2, if i recall correctly, see also #905752.

Awesome! Note that some of those bug reports cover rather special corner
cases you might not have or might find difficult to deploy, namely
master/slave setups or using Smokeping as a more generic monitoring
system (à la Nagios, say). My approach, thus far, with the package, has
been to fix the stuff I use and accept patches for the rest, but not
necessarily go crazy in trying to fix the more exotic use cases.
