AraSuite is a set of tools (previously as separate projects: AraWord, TICO, AraBoard...) useful for working with people with disabilities, particularly those related with communication. That requires the use of augmentative and adaptive communication systems that combine pictograms and words as related concepts.

On the one hand, TICO is a tool for the design and execution of interactive communication boards. Communication boards are highly used in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) environments.

On the other hand, AraWord is a word processor that combines pictograms and text to help disabled people.

Please also include as much relevant information as possible.

Source can be found here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/arasuite/

The GNU/Linux version don't generate the start script, but it can be create as following (I take that from the source: https://sourceforge.net/p/arasuite/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/build/launch-scripts/tico.sh)

#!/bin/bash
cd /PATH_TO_JAR/
JAR="FILE.jar"
java -Xmx256m -Djava.library.path=libs -jar $JAR $*

The first problem is that it is all in Spanish language when you start. When you have installed it you can change it to your language, if exists, or to English.

After you have installed araword (part of arasuite) you must download and install pictograms (there is a sub-menu that do it automatically).

I have found that the Italian association SoDiLinux have insert the araword into their CD/DVD for the Italian schools:
https://sodilinux.itd.cnr.it/index.php/progetto-araword/download-araword

For example, consider answering the following questions:
 - why is this package useful/relevant? is it a dependency for
   another package? do you use it? if there are other packages
   providing similar functionality, how does it compare?

I think it can be a must have package in Debian and Debian Edu, it can be used as an accessibility tool for disable people.

I have installed it for a school. I have see there are a lot of schools and people that use it for easily communicate with people with communication disabilities. And I don't have found something comparable in Debian repository.

I don't use it but I think that it can be very useful for a lot of people.

The software is developed by the Aragon Government using UE found.

 - how do you plan to maintain it? inside a packaging team
   (check list at https://wiki.debian.org/Teams)? are you
   looking for co-maintainers? do you need a sponsor?

I don't want to package and maintain it. I want only to report this suite very useful and very used in the world.

Ciao
Davide
