note that most (all?) of those bugs are not filed by the maintainer, but
by another developer that seems to care more than him (or just have more
time to take care of this).
furthermore, there are more than one hundred bugs filed to date, and
ISTR not all are filed yet.  Most of those bugs involves code changes
(e.g. FTBFS with libpng1.6), not just swapping build-deps.
Those kind stuff takes several weeks, if not months.
Anyway, NMUs already started, hopefully we will be able to outline the
blockers soon enough.
