Great. But… :-)

It would be nice if you could take a look at these references (in increasing
order of importance):
* https://wiki.debian.org/DebianFrance/NewContributorGame#Packagers_for_non-free_Brother_printer_drivers
* https://wiki.debian.org/SummerOfCode2015/Projects/Packaging of further non-
free printing drivers
* https://github.com/illwieckz/debian_copyist_brother/

Where I'm going to, is that I wonder if we could not have a wider packaging
work around the Brother drivers: they come in vastly different forms, but
bundle essentially a wide set of mostly-identical scripts. Many of these
scripts assume they are installed in /opt and also assume 'lpd' is still the
printer server in use.

As you mentionned:

Well. That script is doing dangerous things, and is supposed to be run as
root. It should not be shipped in the binary package, if it's not necessary.
If it is, it should be (heavily) patched.

That amounts to saying I don't think the package as packaged currently is
really suitable for Debian main.

Given the amount of Brother drivers out there, it would be nice to address
this in an "across-the-board" way.

How do you foresee this?
