Bug#825809: unclutter alternatives

Hi,

Oh, you're faster than me. :-)

I only recently heard of unclutter-xfixes (shortly before its 1.1
release) and was looking if migrating the unclutter package to it
would be an option. I also have a half-baked packaging for
unclutter-xfixes, but didn't file an ITP since I wasn't yet sure if
I'd really package it.

So I'm actually very glad that someone else also has interest in
packaging unclutter-xfixes.

If unclutter-xfixes is really that much better (which I'd expect due
to the age of unclutter), I'd rather make a transitional package from
unclutter to unclutter-xfixes and get rid of unclutter in the long run.

Cc'ing Ian Jackson who volunteered for being the fallback maintainer
of the unclutter package.

Not really. :-)

Not necessary IMHO.

My plan was so far:

1) Package unclutter-xfixes with an unclutter transitional package and
upload to experimental first. That way, people who use unclutter
can test unclutter-xfixes to see if anything needs to be fixed
there to make unclutter-xfixes a drop-in replacement for unclutter.

2) When being mature, upload unclutter-xfixes to unstable.

3) Remove unclutter source package from Debian Unstable.

Do you have the packaging somewhere to review and to test
unclutter-xfixes on Debian?

If you haven't begun yet, I can give you what I have so far.
