Tends to be a bit inconsistant. Looking at Debian Python Modules Team
there are a lot of packages that don't do this.

Comparison with python-bitarray is easy - This is a native Python
implementation.

I suspect the major difference is that they were libraries written by
different authors with different aims as to what they wanted to archive.

I haven't used any of these libraries, don't think I can really compare
them :-(
