Bug#809735: ITP: foma -- Xerox-compatible finite-state compiler

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Timo Jyrinki <timo@debian.org>

* Package name    : foma
  Version         : 0.9.18
  Upstream Author : Mans Hulden <mans.hulden@gmmail.com>
* URL             : https://bitbucket.org/mhulden/foma/

* License         : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description     : Xerox-compatible finite-state compiler

 Foma is a compiler, programming language, and C library for constructing
 finite-state automata and transducers for various uses. It has specific
 support for many natural language processing applications such as producing
 morphological analyzers. Although NLP applications are probably the main use
 of foma, it is sufficiently generic to use for a large number of purposes.

The package would be required by suomi-malaga / voikko-fi 2.0, which
drops the malaga backend dependency and switches to using VFST backend that
requires foma to build.

I'm currently planning to maintain it on my own as part of the other
Voikko packages. Voikko upstream however helps here, as also the initial
packaging is based on upstream's packaging for Debian.

I don't need a sponsor, but a co-maintainer would always be welcome.
Especially for libvoikko's optional HFST requirements for other languages
than Finnish.
