In the source package I see:

Vcs-Browser: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/b43-fwcutter.git
Vcs-Git: git://anonscm.debian.org/collab-maint/b43-fwcutter.git

... so anyone who's in collab-maint has write access there.

So you should be able to adopt the package, maintain it in Git, and
use requests for sponsorships if you lack upload rights.
