An update on this:

Bomi currently bundles its own copy of mpv, with custom changes to it.

I've made a Debian package that builds and works, ignoring this issue:

https://mentors.debian.net/package/bomi

People can play with it in the meantime, but until the above issue is fixed, this software will not be able to enter Debian.
