The Orocos Real-Time Toolkit (RTT) is not an application
in itself, but it provides the infrastructure and the
functionalities to build robotics applications in C++. The
emphasis is on real-time, online interactive and
component based applications.

- why is this package useful/relevant? 

It's an important package in the robotics world. It's a
useful framework to build robotics components.

- is it a dependency for another package? 

Another packages in the orocos toolbox. You cannot have the 
complete orocos toolbox if you don't have it.

- do you use it? 

Yes, we use it at the lab where I work.

- if there are other packages providing similar functionality, how does it compare?

ROS is another framework, and it's also in the todo list.

- how do you plan to maintain it? inside a packaging team?

Yes, both. Any help will be welcome. It's a complex package.
