No, unfortunately I hadn't made any progress. I tried to get it working using a git-source package, but the Git package is quite complex and I couldn't get it working, so I gave up in the end. The lack of debhelper in the git package didn't help either (which might be because I'm not very knowledgeable on low-level package building).
