Bug#701029: O: dds2tar -- Tools for using DDS features of DAT drives with GNU tar

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

This package dates from the tar 1.11 era, and basically provides a
mechanism for allowing GNU tar to use the fast seek command that's part
of DAT (DDS) tape drives. This is very handy if you need to restore a
file from the middle of a tape.

The package was always annoying to maintain, and when I stopped using a
DDS drive some years ago I stopped paying much attention to it. I
debated just asking for it to be removed from the archive, but decided
to orphan it instead in case there's someone out there with a DDS drive
still in routine use who would like to keep this going.
