Bug#721430: RFP: crosstool-ng

Package: wnpp

The crosstool-ng package: http://crosstool-ng.org
is by far the best solution for building cross compilers. It has many advanced options for the target platform, including the most important detail of CPU architecture, kernel and CLIB.

This beats the pants off the cross compilers bundled with debian, which tend to have bizarre choices for the CLIB, making cross-compilation itself a pain. With crosstool-ng cross compilers, once simply invokes the gcc as if it were a native gcc.

This wishlist is to:

1. have the crosstool-ng builder distributed with debian, including all the packages that it needs to build the cross-compilers.
2. distribute some popular targets, such as the raspberry pi with HF and EGLIBC libraries.

If point 2 is met, debian will easily become the cross-compilation platform of choice for the rapsberrypi. It is surprisingly difficult to cross compile for it.

(next up: haskell cross compilers ;-))
