The patch has been included in the upstream release. I modified the behaviour afterwards though.
Changes:
- no checking for negative offsets (seek() already does that)
- seeking ability is detected at initialisation, so that read-as-seek is only used on non-seekable streams
- there's an explicit exception when seek is requested but can't be used
